November 27, 2015. Virsaviya Borun-Goncharova is a 6 year old Russian girl with a very special medical condition. She was born with Cantrell syndrome. While the doctors gave her little time to live, she struggles daily.
A spectacular fight for 6 years
Virsaviya syndrome is a unrecognized disease that affects one in a million children. She was born with her heart and intestines outside of her body. She is also missing bones and has no diaphragm, so doctors only gave her a few hours to live. But it is in real miraculous that she continues to defy the laws of medicine.
A crowdfunding campaign for the operation
Virsaviya is more fragile than younger girls her age and gets sick more easily. Her mother’s finances do not allow her to have insurance to pay for treatment and medication. After contacting hospitals around the world, the ideal for them would be that they could move to Boston, to be closer to the hospital where a doctor has promised to help them. For that, Dari, the mother, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the YouCaring site to raise funds which will be used for her daughter’s surgery.
A pleasant surprise and a lot of hope
It should $ 100,000 to cover the entire Virsaviya operation. To date, the fundraising amounted to € 59,000. Far from expecting such enthusiasm, the family is full of hope and shares their daily life on social networks. Since the media coverage of the story, they receive a lot of support from internet users. “I don’t have a family here. It’s just me and Virsaviya, but now I feel like I have a family because a lot of people take care of us. They love us. They want to help, ”said Dari at NBC 6.
The little girl, for her part, thanks her mother for supporting him in his fight: “My heart is here. It’s on the outside of my chest and I really love my mom, she always loved touching my heart.“
