A two-and-a-half-year-old girl died at Rouen University Hospital on Friday January 26, as revealed France Bleu Normandie. She was the victim of devastating bacterial meningitis.
Little Zeina, a resident of Evreux in Eure, presented symptoms specific to meningococcal meningitis on Friday, according to local media. Sudden fever, stiff neck, vomiting and red spots on the body led to the girl’s transfer to the Rouen University Hospital. She died in the evening.
Emergency health procedure
The little girl attended the Isambard nursery in Evreux. The Regional Health Agency (ARS) immediately set up an emergency health procedure. With the help of municipal services, she identified all the people who had been in contact with Zeina over the past ten days in order to provide them with preventive treatment.
This procedure is intended for those who have been in daily and close contact with the girl, children as well as adults. This concerns his family, the other children in the nursery, some professionals and the hospital caregivers.
This type of meningitis is very dangerous and fatal in 10 to 15% of cases. The health agency reassured the population explaining that the probability of another lightning case is very low. The LR mayor of Evreux, Guy Lefrand, for his part called not to panic, affirming that “the situation is well managed by the ARS”. “Almost all of the people concerned have been contacted and we know how to take care of them,” said the elected official.
In case of doubt, the town hall of Evreux has set up an alert number accessible 24 hours a day. For any information request, dial one of these numbers: 02 32 31 52 52 or 06 77 09 23 00.
