How to offer students better access to care? Paris Descartes University, located in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, opened this week a new completely free care center: the Saints Fathers health center.
The consultations carried out in this center are open to all Parisian students, who must present a vital card and a student card for the current year. Patients will not have to advance costs because this new health center is approved by Social Security.
The new center brings together seven doctors, including general practitioners, psychiatrists, from gynecologists and one Dentiste, but also seven nurses and nine psychologists. The center is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and expects to receive 5,000 students for the 2015-2016 school year.
An evolution of academic medicine
Before the opening of this health center, students could go to the preventive medicine centers of their faculties. But these services remain limited, as doctors do not have the authorization to issue prescriptions.
Students who treat themselves less and less
The opening of this health center responds to a need to facilitate access to care for students. Indeed, a recent survey showed that only 79% of students had consulted a health professional in 2015, and that more than half of young people usedself-medication when they were sick, often for lack of means. To simplify the process, the Saints Pères health center offers an online appointment booking service via the doctolib internet platform.
