According to a survey commissioned from Ipsos by the Pierre Deniker Foundation for research and prevention in mental health and contrary to popular belief, young people between the ages of 15 and 25 are “happy and interested in life”. However, just over a third of them (37%) often feel “stressed”, which their parents (18%) perceive much less than their teachers (43%).
In addition, more than one in two young people (55%) have been hampered in their daily life by symptoms of mental difficulty (anxiety, phobia, depression, paranoia, etc.), and one in five (22%) significantly. Here again, parents perceive it less well: barely two in five (39%) realize this suffering.
Better screening for mental illness
“Three quarters of mental illnesses occur before the age of 25, 80% of psychotic disorders are revealed between 15 and 25 years. Their early detection is one of the conditions for the success of their treatment. , it is therefore essential to know the representations, experiences and expectations of young people in this age group with regard to mental disorders “ declares the Foundation.
This IPSOS survey “Youth mental health” for the Pierre Deniker Foundation with institutional support from Janssen was unveiled as part of the Mental Health Information Weeks.
