I am on vacation abroad. I had a blow to my ear, which caused a tear in my eardrum. Now the doctor at the local hospital wants to operate on me, but I don’t see it that way: I’d rather go to a Dutch hospital. Only: can I fly with a tear in the eardrum? What can I do best?

Of course I don’t know how bad it is, but I myself would rather have surgery in the Netherlands. It is better to get aftercare in the hospital where you were treated. It is probably also better to fly with a broken eardrum than with a newly surgically repaired eardrum: after all, there is pressure on it during the ascent and descent, and if the air can freely pass through it, it will not bother you. Of course I have not seen it and I am not an ENT doctor, but if the foreign doctor does not come up with very serious arguments, I would indeed postpone it until home.
