The Health and Youth Care Inspectorate is going to recall gastric acid inhibitors containing the substance ranitidine. It may contain carcinogens.
NDMA
Ranitidine could contain nitrosamine, also known as NDMA. It is currently unclear whether this substance is carcinogenic. This seemed to be the case in experiments with animals, but more clarity about this will only become available later this year.
Recall
As a precaution, the Health Care and Youth Inspectorate will be recalling the gastric acid inhibitors in the very near future. It is not yet clear which medicines are being recalled and whether patients already have these medicines at home. The inspectorate will release more details about the recall next week.
What if you take gastric inhibitors with ranitidine?
Are you taking antacids with ranitidine? Do not just stop taking these medicines. Always consult a doctor or pharmacist first. That is what the inspectorate recommends. In a response to RTL Nieuws, the inspectorate said that there was no acute risk.
