Intense sports activity on weekends can achieve the same health benefits as exercising more regularly and several times a week. This is the conclusion of an Australian study which has just been published.
The benefits of different forms of sporting activity come together
Doing a lot of sport on the weekends would provide the same health benefits as more regular physical activity during the week.. These conclusions have just been established by Australian researchers at the University of Sydney in a study published in the journal Jama internal medicine.
To reach this conclusion, these researchers studied the cases of 63,591 participants. Among them, 45% said they played sports once a week, while the remaining 55% practiced sports several times.. By comparing the medical data of these participants at the end of this study which lasted several years, the authors established that the two categories of athletes obtained almost the same benefits on their health.
Regular sports activity considerably reduces the risk of developing cancer
In particular, they have shown that all succeeded in reducing their risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease by 41%, while in the field of cancer, regular athletes have a reduced risk of 21% against 18% for Sunday athletes.
These two categories of people also have a greatly reduced risk of suffering from these pathologies, compared to people who do not practice any sporting activity. or those who do not practice enough. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that you commit to at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity and 75 minutes of intense sport each week.
