THE natman diet -or some flight attendant– works in 4 days : during this period, you are only allowed lean proteins, green vegetables and fruits with little sugar. He promises a loss of 4 kilos in 4 days. This diet is known among air hostesses because it corresponds to the time of stopovers. Their goal ? Eliminate excess food committed during the flight.
If it works, it is because the body will draw on the reserves of fat and of sugar that the daily diet no longer provides since this diet only involves consuming proteins and vegetables. This is what will mainly lead to weight loss. In addition, as this diet promotes protein intake, it would prevent the muscle wasting.
The fact of not or little consuming saltwould make it possible to fight against the Water retention, which also explains the rapid weight loss results. Indeed, when you overeat, short-term weight gain is largely water.
Be careful before you start. This diet is very restrictive and it is for this reason that it should not be followed for more than 4 days.
Natman diet: allowed and forbidden foods
The natman diet asks you to avoid snacking between meals, sugary drinks, alcoholic drinks and oil-based seasonings and dishes with sauces. Clear, it allows lean meat such as poultry, white fish, seafood, eggs, tofu, yogurts and dairy products, green vegetables, citrus fruits and low-sugar fruits. It prohibits sugar, starchy foods, cereals, cakes, pastries, pastries, fats, cheese, industrial dishes, fast foods and soft drinks.
The reduction of lipids (fat) and carbohydrates (sugars) are therefore the two pillars of this diet. You can absolutely cut back on fat and sugar if you ate too much during your vacation.
This very restrictive diet is not without risk
Limiting these foods after binge eating is not bad advice. “I have nothing against lightening your diet from time to time, especially after excesses: eating more vegetables, more digestible, more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, favoring good fats over bad, no alcohol… it can only be beneficial. Anyway, of course, if you know how to listen to your body, after excesses you will need to eat lighter“, we share Vanessa Bedjaï-Haddad, nutritionist.
In contrast, the natman diet should not last longer than 4 days. Some variations exist such as the 8-day natman diet. They are strongly discouraged.
Indeed, the latter is very restrictive since it does not allow no deviation. The risk ? Food compulsions and moments of great hunger. It is also monotonous and constraining since many foods are prohibited.
“This diet promises -4 kg in 4 days! Is it really an end in itself? And with many restrictions, therefore frustration with the risk of being hungry, cracking, feeling guilty and eating more than without having started this diet“, underlines our expert.
This diet may help some people after food excess, however, they risk compensating in the long term and regaining the lost weight. This is the risk we run with all restrictive diets. In addition, it will not be able to help people who are overweight or obese. The latter must be followed by a doctor or a nutritionist and review their dietary balance.
Are there any possible side effects?
THE digestive and intestinal transit disorders and the fatigue are possible side effects. This mode of feeding is thus not recommended children, the elderly, pregnant women, diabetics and patients prone to gastrointestinal disorders.
Moreover, this type of diet low calorie (especially the very drastic 4 days) does not contain enough calories to meet the recommended intakes of vitamins and minerals.
To lose weight, bet instead on a food rebalancing
The secret if you need to shed a few pounds or want to eat better for health reasons is to adopt an eating pattern that you can follow for the rest of your life. A diet that does not involve cutting out foods or counting calories. We will then rather speak of food rebalancing. You can follow them throughout your life, without the risk of frustration and without yo-yo effect ! You don’t have to deprive yourself or cut out food. Which is not the case if you submit to the natman diet. The latter does not encourage a dietary change in the long term. By involving the elimination of certain food groups, it is not the best option if you want to lose weight healthily and durably.
“I hate the idea of demonizing foods for the benefit of others. There are no (raw) foods that are better than others, they just have different contributions and properties and are to be consumed depending on how often and how much they are.“, adds Vanessa Bedjai-Haddad.
Weight loss is healthy if done gradually. In principle, diets and slimming tips that promise rapid weight loss are counterproductive. You will not hold them for the long term and will regain the lost weight, or even more.
“If you need to lose weight, get help from a health professional. It is very easy to unbalance your diet with the risk of dangerous deficiencies or psychological disorders”warns our nutritionist.
