Between confinement, the coronavirus epidemic, the start of the new school year and the gloomy weather, there is (really) reason to feel depressed… Good news: according to a recent ProntoPro survey carried out between January and September 2020 among 50,000 Internet users , the French are more and more attentive to their mental health.
Thus, 20% of respondents consult a professional (and, in particular, a psychotherapist) outside of any health problem; moreover, 33% of people suffering from depressive symptoms and 27% of anxious people consult naturally. In 2020, consulting a therapist is no longer taboo…
Yoga and meditation in full consciousness, benefits for the body as well as for the spirit
If, until 2019, mindfulness meditation was “the” alternative therapy acclaimed by the French, confinement has changed the situation: it is now yoga that is at the top of the podium, with a significant increase in requests on internet (14% in 2019, 43% in 2020). No doubt the video lessons that were broadcast throughout the confinement period have increased the interest of the French for this gentle physical activity.
However, mindfulness meditation has not said its last word and remains a safe bet for the French in search of well-being: there too, during confinement, many “instructions” for getting started have been posted on social media.
Yoga or mindfulness meditation, how to choose? If the first acts both on the body and on the mind (yoga postures work joint flexibility, maintain muscle mass and relieve chronic pain, while fighting against fatigue and promoting good mood), a professional support is necessary, especially in the case of chronic illness.
Mindfulness meditation, on the other hand, is for everyone and is excellent for mental health (it fights against anxiety, against stress, against mood disorders, against addictions, against pain. ..) but it is necessary to practice regularly to feel the benefits. To test !
