Massaging your baby develops the relationship with him and his development.
From the first day of life it is possible to start the massages of your baby, with the agreement of his doctor in case of prematurity. By using gentle massage techniques and talking to him at the same time you improve the bond of attachment, but also communication with him and his stress.
Massaging your baby only has benefits
By massaging your child, you get to know him. Indeed, physical contact stimulates the production of oxytocin, the hormone of attachment, and promotes the understanding of non-verbal signals and therefore communication with it.
Massage is also a very relaxing moment that reduces stress, improves sleep, stimulates blood circulation and even promotes weight gain by improving digestion.
How to properly massage your baby?
For your baby to appreciate the moment of the massage, favor a moment during which he is awake and relaxed. This can be after sleeping or bathing, or before drinking. Avoid massaging him when he is sleeping, crying or very agitated.
Then lay your baby down on a blanket on the floor or on your bed, making sure he’s not cold. Use a vegetable oil or moisturizer, avoiding wearing jewelry that could hurt him.
Take the time, about 15 minutes, by massaging his arms, legs and back first, then his face, chest, stomach and neck if he feels comfortable. During this time of relaxation, always be attentive to his needs and his reactions and do not hesitate to talk to him about what you are doing or sing him a song.
