On their online appointment booking page (doctolib.fr or monrdv.com) several doctors or dentists announce the color: “No CMU” (universal health coverage) or “No AME” (State medical aid). In other words: here we do not treat the poorest!
Faced with this discriminatory behavior, Doctors of the World, the Federation of Solidarity Actors (Fnars) and the Inter-associative Collective on Health (CISS) which brings together patient associations, seized the Defender of Rights.
They refuse to treat without exceeding fees
In the process, he opened an investigation and sent a request for explanation to these doctors who refuse to treat these patients at the conventional rate without exceeding fees, as the law requires them to do.
“These refusals of care for the precarious are massive and repetitive”explains Florent Gueguen, general delegate of Fnars, interviewed by the daily Le Monde. “But with this display on the sites, one more step has been taken, the rejection process is uninhibited.”
If practitioners persist in their approach, disciplinary proceedings could be initiated by the National Council of the College of Physicians.
A brief reminder of the Hippocratic oath
The Council of the Order will no doubt also remind them that before exercising, all have signed the Hippocratic oath. And that by subscribing it, they promised to “respect all people, their autonomy and their will, without any discrimination according to their condition or their convictions”. And to intervene “to protect them if they are weakened, vulnerable or threatened in their integrity or dignity”.
