Researchers at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (in the United States) have just discovered a new benefit to the credit of mindfulness meditation: it would help students better manage their stress and their emotions, while promoting learning. and attention in class. But good !
Mindfulness to help students entering 6th grade
These works (published in the specialist journal Behavioral Neuroscience) were conducted with 100 students aged 11 on average, enrolled in 6th grade. They benefited from daily sessions of mindfulness meditation (“mindfulness” in the language of Shakespeare) for 8 weeks.
Result: at the end of the experiment, the young pupils reported lower stress levels and better academic performance compared to the control group that did not benefit from the meditation sessions.
“We believe that mindfulness meditation (being fully in the present moment, without getting distracted by the flow of your thoughts) can be a great boost for students in early middle school, say the researchers of MIT. It is a discipline which is not difficult to practice and which is free: one can consider 1 to 2 two sessions per week because it is the regularity which leads to the benefits, like sport. ” And if we tried with the youngest?
