Then you have to steal many, many iPods to get this value. A bizarre story.
Nowadays we are only talking about the iPad and the iPhone. Well, you also have the iPod Touch, but only a very small group is interested in that. In the pre-iPhone era, the iPod was the most popular Apple product. Now the iPods are in the news again, but in a very different light, because it has to do with stealing.
To steal? Yes. A woman in the US state of New Mexico stole more than 3,000 iPods between 2013 and 2018. The devices had been purchased by a school and were intended for students. Instead, the woman ran off with the iPods, then sold the devices on eBay for years. She herself worked at the school and therefore had access to the iPods.
The trial was this week and the judge has sentenced her to 18 months in prison. In the years she committed the thefts, she also filed false tax returns. In all those years, the US tax authorities has lost another 200,000 euros. The total value of the theft exceeds 800,000 euros, according to justice. The woman herself has converted about 600,000 euros from stealing the iPods.
