This is how you prevent a tick bite
They are usually active from March to November and they are not only in the forest, but can also walk around the park and in your own garden: ticks. With these seven golden tips you reduce the chance that you will be bitten.
- Stay on the trails and avoid dense vegetation and undergrowth.
- Wear closed-toe shoes, long sleeves and long pants. Tuck trouser legs into socks.
- Wear light clothing. You can see ticks better on it.
- Apply a product containing DEET to exposed skin. You can also spray this on the clothes.
- Been into nature? Always check yourself carefully, possibly with a mirror or magnifying glass. Good to know: ticks are most often found in the groin, then in the back of the knee.
- Wash the clothes at a minimum of 60 degrees Celsius and use the dryer. That survival sign is not.
- Always have a tick remover handy so that you can remove a tick if it does get you.
