In 2019, according to statistics from the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics (DREES), 232,000 voluntary terminations of pregnancy (IVG) were recorded in France . A figure which has been increasing every year since 1990 and which mainly concerns women aged 20 to 29.
Abortion has been legal in France since the Veil law, passed in January 1975. Voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG) is thus accessible to adult and minor women alike, free of charge and anonymously. This medical act unfortunately remains prohibited and punishable by heavy penalties in many countries of the world – as in El Salvador, Nicaragua, Surinam, Dominican Republic, Philippines, Congo, Gabon…
Abortion: beware of fake news and misleading websites!
To abort, two solutions exist:Surgical abortion or instrumental (which is practiced in the hospital under local or general anesthesia and which consists of an evacuation of the uterine contents by aspiration) can be practiced until the 12th week of pregnancy. L’Medical abortion (which can be done in a health facility or at home and which consists of taking drugs that cause the expulsion of the embryo) can be practiced until the 7th week of pregnancy .
Unfortunately, anti-abortion activists remain numerous and do not hesitate to spread fake news on social networks to dissuade pregnant women… And on the internet, misleading sites are multiplying: for non- partisan, we will turn to the official website IVG.gouv.frL’Health Insurance or theNational Association of Abortion and Contraception Centers (ANCIC).
