1. You will never get rid of an anxiety disorder

There are various treatments that you can receive for complaints caused by an anxiety disorder, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, breathing techniques, (online) courses and sometimes medicines. Through these treatments you can learn to deal with your fears better. This often causes the disorder to fade into the background.
2. An anxiety disorder is rare

Nearly one in five Dutch adults has had an anxiety disorder at some point in their life. It is therefore more common than thought, especially in women. But children and young people often have to deal with it too. That has a significant impact on everyday life.
3. If you are afraid, then you have an anxiety disorder

You must have felt scared or anxious at some point. Fear is an emotion you feel when danger threatens. Do you suffer from severe anxiety symptoms, without there being any danger, and do they hinder your daily functioning? Then you probably have an anxiety disorder.
4. You can get physical complaints due to fear

Anxiety and tension can cause physical complaints, such as palpitations, hyperventilation, sweating, shortness of breath and dizziness. It can help to provide distraction, exercise every day, get enough sleep, and do something that relaxes. If necessary, seek help from a practice nurse or psychologist.
5. An anxiety disorder often co-occurs with a major depressive disorder
Fact.
You can get depression due to anxiety symptoms, but also the other way around: a prolonged period of depression can lead to feelings of anxiety. The disorders often occur together, because they influence each other. Fortunately, they are usually treatable. Ask your doctor for advice.
