About fifteen children and adolescents between the ages of 5 and 12 have been infected with bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus near Vivario, in Haute-Corse. They were said to have been infected in early August while participating in water games. If the exact circumstances of the spread of the bacterium have not yet been established, a few avenues have already been explored.
Staphylococcus aureus: the infection would have started in water games
“Several grouped cases of skin infections have been detected. The only possible link of the people concerned is contamination of the water games from an inflatable structure installed for the feast of August 1, 2015, a structure that is not the cause of the infection, but which was a facilitating factor for human-to-human transmission (close contact), “Jean-Jacques Coiplet, Director General of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Corsica, explained on August 21, in a press release. .
Children treated with antibiotics and ointment
The children are now healed or on the mend. At the time ofinfection, they had sores on their elbows and legs which were treated with antibiotics and ointment.
If you detect a new case, report it to the services of the Regional Health Agency of Corsica on 04 95 51 99 88, or by writing to the following email address: ars2a-alerte@ars.sante.fr
