The 112 emergency center can now also be reached by text message and app, especially for people with hearing and speech problems. But it can also be useful for people who can hear and speak well. For example, in situations where you cannot or do not want to speak out loud, such as a burglary.
How does the 112NL App work?
At the beginning of this year, the 112NL App was launched for everyone. You can call and text with the app and it is both for iOS and android available. The advantage of the app is that the emergency center immediately has more information. They see who you need: the police, the fire brigade or an ambulance. They also see your name, if you entered it in the app, and your precise location. You can indicate which language you speak or if you have difficulty hearing or speaking. In that case, the operator can immediately start a chat to help you.
The app will be further expanded, so that it will also be possible to send images to the control room.
How does texting to 112 work?
For SMS it is important to register first, otherwise the SMS service will not work. iOS and Android users can sign up like this:
- Text ‘sign up’ to 112
- Now you will receive a text message back with the request to confirm your registration
- Text back ‘sign up approved’
- You are logged in to text with the 112 emergency center
You register once, after which you can contact the control room at any time via text message.
