Discord gives Android app a major update

Discord’s Android app is getting a makeover. The team behind the app wants to release updates simultaneously with the desktop and iOS versions.

As an Android user, you may be used to Discord users on iOS and desktops getting their updates earlier and sometimes having to wait months to get the same options.

But that will change in the future. Discord wants to ensure that all apps of the company are updated simultaneously. It reports in a recently published blog.

The different versions of the app may also become more similar due to this decision. Discord wants to use React Native, from Meta, for this process.

That is open source software that Instagram, Microsoft Outlook, Shopify, Tesla, Pinterest and more apps make grateful use of. The iOS version of Discord is already built on this.

So, in general, Discord’s different apps start to look similar; for example, the font is aligned everywhere. But some functions will soon be available exclusively for Android.

The rollout of the brand new app has also started. You may have already received the update, but otherwise you will have to wait a few more days or weeks for it to arrive.
