Last July, Minister of Health Agnès Buzyn declared that 11 vaccines would be obligatory for children starting next year. An announcement that had aroused the indignation of anti-vaccines. Despite the controversy, Agnès Buzyn has today confirmed the news on CNews : this measure will come into force on January 1, 2018.
No emergency vaccination
Currently, only three vaccines are compulsory in France, namely those against diphtheria, tetanus and polio (DTP). Eight others, against the whooping cough, measles, mumps, rubella,Hepatitis B, the bacterium Haemophilus influenzae, the pneumococcus and meningococcus C are recommended. As of January 1, 2018, these will therefore become mandatory. But the Minister of Health does not want to implement this measure in haste. “We will obviously give the families time to get in working order because it is out of the question to urge people to vaccinate in an emergency,” she said.
The goal? Ensure that “the 15% of children (unvaccinated) which endanger others and which favor the re-emergence of epidemics for which there are deaths today, are putting themselves in working order to protect the rest of the population “, specified the Minister of Health. , Agnès Buzyn does not wish to further sanction parents who refuse to have their child vaccinated, the latter incurring in theory up to six months in prison and a fine of 3,750 euros. “The objective of this obligation is to restore confidence to the French, “she said last July.
