In the Netherlands, a 101-year-old woman with Covid-19 recovered from the disease. After spending a week and a half in a hospital near Rotterdam with breathing difficulties, she took tests which showed she was positive for Covid-19. She was then placed in solitary confinement, where she overcame the disease.
Not the first centenarian to make it out
The centenarian, whose name has not filtered, was able to leave the hospital and will go to a nursing home before returning home. It represents “a glimmer of hope” depending on the hospital that treated her. “She’s a tough woman and it’s great to see her follow medical advice, like sneezing into her elbow and even telling me to keep a safe distance”said pulmonologist Sunil Ramlal, interviewed by Reuters.
She is not the first centenarian to overcome Covid-19. On March 26, a 101-year-old man was discharged from hospital in Rimini, Italy, cured after testing positive. “These days, it’s always good to give a little hope”, had indicated the mayor of the city. Nicknamed “Mr P”this man, born in 1919, had become during his stay in the hospital the mascot of the establishment.
