Good news : we will (finally) be able to buy protective masks in pharmacies to protect ourselves against the coronavirus. The information was published in Official newspaper this Saturday, April 25, 2020, as announced by the Minister of Health Olivier Véran ten days ago.
Since Monday, April 27, 2020, the 22,000 pharmacies in France and the Overseas Departments and Regions (DROM) have therefore once again the right to sell “general public” masks: these had been requisitioned by the French State on March 3, at the start of the Covid-19 epidemic in France.
Covid-19: the “general public” mask offers protection greater than 70%
Masks, yes, but which masks? Unsurprisingly, the masks marketed today in pharmacies are “general public” masks – also called “alternative masks”. Indeed, surgical masks or (the famous) FFP2 masks remain reserved for nursing staff, who are of course on the front line in the face of the Sars-Cov-2 virus.
No need to worry, however: experts estimate that if two people face to face wear a “general public” mask, the level of protection against the coronavirus is around 90%. And if only one person wears a “general public” mask, the level of protection (for them) is greater than 70% in the event of contact with an infected person. This is an excellent reason to get a mask (even “general public”) as soon as possible!
