Imagine: it’s December 23, you’re quietly preparing for your Christmas Eve, when suddenly you receive a text message from your doctor’s office. This one says: “Diagnosis: Aggressive lung cancer with metastases – Thank you.”
This is the nightmare experienced by hundreds of patients registered at Askern Medical Practice, a medical center located near the city of Doncaster (in the United Kingdom). A little before 4 p.m., they received this terrifying message, ironically ending with a simple “thank you”.
A terrifying message, mistakenly sent by the medical center
Unsurprisingly, many recipients became concerned and attempted to contact the medical center – to no avail. Our British colleagues from Sun mention in particular the particular case of a 57-year-old man who was precisely waiting for the results of his analyzes aimed at determining whether he was suffering (or not) from bronchopulmonary cancer: it was by going there in a hurry that the father of the family had the good surprise to discover that he was not finally sick.
The pot of roses was discovered shortly after 4 p.m., when patients at Askern Medical Practice received a second text message: “Please accept our sincere apologies for the last message, which was sent in error. The message we wanted to send you was: We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
A big blunder which obviously did not go unnoticed on social networks…
