Customized weight loss
Almost everyone has tried a diet at some point. Sometimes to lose a few kilograms so that you can finally wear that new dress. Sometimes also because it is necessary for your health. There are many different ways to lose weight. Which way suits you is very personal.
Everyone who decides to go on a diet has a different preference when it comes to food and discipline. One is very fond of bread and tries the bread diet. The other actually benefits more from counting calories.
Different diets
Fortunately, there are many different diets and ways to lose weight. From Sonja Bakker’s diet to a detox attempt. Even Dr. Phil now has his own diet and raw vegetables can go a long way. In the right column you will find an overview of diets.
With a diet you follow a different or adjusted eating pattern for a certain period of time. It can be a small change or adjustment, such as stopping sweets. But sometimes it can also mean that you start cooking, eating and exercising very differently. You then pay more attention to what you eat and follow certain rules.
Your style
Experts agree that you should choose a diet that fits your lifestyle. Also consider what your daily routine looks like and whether a diet is possible in your situation. For example, if you suffer from stress, then little food is not useful: your body cannot cope with the diet.
Also think about which foods you really should not avoid. You can choose a diet where you are not allowed to eat pasta, but if that is your favorite dish, it will be difficult to maintain that diet. Try to be as honest with yourself as possible to maximize your chances of success.
Also look closely at your goal: do you want to lose a few pounds quickly to be able to wear your bikini in the summer? Or do you want to lose a lot of weight in the long term and because of your health? Your intentions determine the diet that suits you. If you are having health problems because of your weight, consult a dietitian to help you choose the best diet.
Watch out for the yo-yo effect
Following a diet is the first step. You choose a diet, stick to the guidelines and go for it. But often it is difficult to maintain the effect in the long term. Usually you still have to adjust your diet, otherwise the well-known yo-yo effect will arise: first lose weight and then gain just as much – and sometimes even more.
According to Statistics Netherlands, 46 percent of Dutch adults were overweight in 2006. This also poses risks for blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Most people who are overweight and have high cholesterol can lower it by losing weight.
