Children’s games are increasingly violent, not only through virtual heroes, but also in physical intensity, which many teachers denounce. The teeth are among the first victims. What to do in case of tooth loss.
The playground, the place of all learning, but also of all the dangers for the teeth of our children: a slip, a jostle, a fight… It’s the fall, and one or more teeth can suffer. . So what can be done so that this incident does not cost, definitively, an incisor or a canine?
The first action, if the tooth is expelled, is to recover it. Admittedly, only the permanent teeth will be reimplanted, but if in doubt, do not abstain, scrape the schoolyard, find the tooth and bring it back to the dentist.
To keep… in the mouth
For transport, there is no question of being choosy: the child’s saliva (he puts his tooth in his mouth), water or even a paper handkerchief will do the trick, knowing that the ideal, it is physiological saline, or failing that, UHT milk.
The shorter the time between the accident and the reimplantation, the greater the chances of success.
If the tooth is still in place, but seriously displaced, it is a dislocation. Do not hesitate to straighten it with a tissue and ask the child not to touch it with his tongue. Direction again the dentist: he will immobilize the tooth for some time by putting a thread that will connect it to the others.
Other frequent traumas, for these real bumpers of the face that are teeth, cracks and fractures. Whether the tooth is temporary or permanent, the dentist will reconstruct it using resin.
Another unusual situation: the trauma was violent. The face hit the ground or a buddy’s fist hard. The child suffers from his teeth; they actually disappeared. However, it is impossible to find them. Not for the dentist who, using an X-ray, will show you that they have entered the gum! Don’t panic, they will go down after a while, under professional supervision.
time counts
In all these situations, it is absolutely necessary to see a specialist. Very quickly, within half an hour if the tooth is pulled out; in other cases, you have a little more time, but you must consult even if the shock seems minimal.
In all cases also, you will ask the dentist to establish an initial certificate which will open the rights vis-à-vis insurance.
Then you will have to be patient for the rest of the events: regular monitoring is the key word: every 3 weeks, then every 3 months and finally every year, and this for 5 years.
It will also be an opportunity to monitor cavities, which, wrongly, few people do!
