Two years ago I had an injection in my knee because of pseudogout. It only helped for half a year. Now the symptoms are getting worse. Is there anything that can be done?
Joris Bartstra, journalist with a medical degree.
Pseudogout is an inflammation of joints in which crystals precipitate. If you have symptoms, there is an inflammation going on that damages the cartilage of your joint. Damaged joints are easier to re-ignite and so there is more and more damage. So do not walk too long with thick painful joints, but suppress the inflammation in time. There is a reasonable choice of medicines. Do not give up disappointed if the problem returns after six months. It is more a matter of maintenance than of cure, but this will prevent things from breaking down permanently.
