According to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), women should wait between 18 and 24 months between two pregnancies, in order to reduce the risks for their own health and that of the baby. But a new study will undoubtedly reassure older women who would like to reduce this delay. Indeed, according to researchers at the University of British Columbia (Canada), a delay of 12 to 18 months between childbirth and the start of a new pregnancy is enough to reduce the risk for the health.
For this study, researchers have tracked 150,000 births in Canada. According to their conclusions:
- An interval of 12 to 18 months is the ideal time between childbirth and a new pregnancy.
- Get pregnant less than 12 months after childbirth is associated with risks for women of all ages.
- The women over 35 years old having given birth 6 months after a previous birth run 1.2% more risk of maternal mortality or harm (12 cases per 1000 pregnancies).
