Remember: in January 2021, a team of German researchers hypothesized that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus (responsible for Covid-19) could alter sperm quality – by reducing the concentration and mobility of spermatozoa.
A new study carried out by the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine (in the United States) has just confirmed that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus does indeed have an impact on the fertility of men… but not only.
The American researchers analyzed the testicles of 6 men who died of Covid-19, and the testicles of a living man who contracted the disease 3 months before the study. Verdict? Scientists observed traces of the virus in the testicles of two people (the surviving man and a deceased man), and a significant drop in sperm count in three of the deceased.
Covid-19 vaccines have no impact on male fertility
Worse: by analyzing the penises of two men who survived the disease, the researchers discovered that the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus was still present 7 to 9 months after the diagnosis of Covid-19. Both men had developed severe erectile dysfunction,”probably related to a reduction in the vascularity of the penis, caused by the viral infection” say the scientists. “This discovery is not really surprising: other viruses (such as the Zika virus, for example) are able to infect the testicles of men and cause male infertility.” note the researchers.
On the contrary, the researchers are formal: vaccines against Covid-19 have no impact on male fertility or on the quality of erection. “A study in 45 men showed that the Pfizer/BioNtech and Moderna vaccines are safe for the male reproductive system“confirm the scientists.
