The semiconductor crisis continues to cause trouble… Volkswagen is paying the price with its electric model ID.3. The German compact remains available for sale in a new Active version, the only one now available in the catalog. It is displayed at €44,680.
The electric adventure is still strewn with pitfalls for generalist manufacturers. A planetary shortage of microprocessors delays and upsets the manufacture and supply of certain “zero emission” models, which can be equipped with more than 1,000 electronic chips. Volkswagen is one of the most affected manufacturers and more particularly with its ID.3 model. In Germany, it now imposes strict quotas for dealerships, which will be adjusted individually according to the evolution of sales during the year. A measure that does not currently affect France. On the other hand, in France, the compact separates from its different levels of finish, engine and battery. A special Active series takes over and becomes the only one available to order since Wednesday, February 16.
A base of ID.3 Pro Performance
Volkswagen’s objective is clear: to streamline production and reduce delivery times The manufacturer therefore chooses to offer this only Active version with the mid-range configuration. Namely the 204 hp engine coupled to the 58 kWh battery. As a reminder, this combo had a range of 425 km according to WLTP standards. The 45 and 77 kWh accumulators are abandoned for the moment, the first having already been withdrawn from the catalog in January. The Active version starts from €44,680. It is therefore ideally positioned below the €45,000 threshold and can benefit from the maximum ecological bonus of €6,000.
An access price that explodes
We note above all that the price of the entry-level ID.3 explodes: the old Pro version (145 hp, 58 kWh) was offered at a price of 39 €300, i.e. more than €5,000 difference. A flight which is explained by a much more extensive series endowment. Also pay attention to the rare options offered, such as the heat pump (€1,070), the hitch for a bicycle rack (€460) or the 19-inch rims (€610). They will all reduce the bonus to €2,000…unless you negotiate a discount. Finally, note that the old range of the compact electric is still available if you turn to copies already in stock.
An XXL series endowment
The ID.3 Active affords such a price because the equipment on board has been reviewed. Thus, the compact receives as standard:
- Comfort Pack including upholstery in Velvet Art and leatherette, heated and height-adjustable front seats, a capacitive multifunction and heated steering wheel as well as customizable mood lighting (30 colours).
- Infotainment pack comprising the “Discover Pro 10” navigation & Infotainment system and the Bluetooth Comfort telephone interface with inductive charging function.
- Assistance Pack comprising the keyless opening and closing system, the “Rear View” reversing camera, the automatic parking function, a proactive occupant protection system and an anti-theft alarm.
Added to this is a host of other equipment that was already supplied automatically on the ID.3, starting with a good number of driving aids:
- ACC: adaptive and predictive cruise control
- Front Assist: Perimeter monitoring system with city emergency braking and pedestrian detection functions
- Turn Assist: intersection emergency braking
- Park Pilot: front and rear parking assistance system with audible signals and visualization of the distance from obstacles on the screen.
- Car2X: the Car2X function uses information from other vehicles present within a radius of up to 800 meters, as well as signals from transport infrastructures to warn the driver and transmit these warnings to other vehicles equipped with the function Car2X.
