A 2002 Volkswagen Golf GTI “25th Anniversary” with less than 13 km on the odometer and perfectly preserved since leaving the factory changed hands at auction for around € 45,000, which is the price of a new Golf GTI today. .
In France, a fourth generation Volkswagen Golf GTI is rarely traded for more than 5,000 €, often for much less. However, on the other side of the Channel, a copy of the German compact from 2002 has just been auctioned for £ 38,250, or approximately € 45,000. A price equivalent to that of a new Golf 8 GTI today. Obviously, this is not a GTI like the others.
A rare model, and new
The car in question here is part of the “25th Anniversary” special series which, as the name suggests, celebrated the 25th anniversary of the original Golf GTI, in a British right-hand drive configuration. This edition was produced in 1,800 units, and this light gray copy bears the number 718. Above all, the car is new and has only 8 miles on the clock, or less than 13 kilometers. It was first put into circulation on 1er October 2002. It has had only one owner and, for its sale, the car has just undergone the pre-delivery inspection of new vehicles at a Volkswagen garage.
A recognizable finish
The Golf GTI 25th Anniversary, the European equivalent of the GTI 337 from North America, can be recognized by its specific shields, its 18-inch BBS rims and its widened side sills. Inside, the black and red upholstery evoking the first Golf GTI is badged “GTI Recaro”.
Aluminum inserts contribute to the sporty ambience, and a numbered plaque recalls the commemorative nature of the model. Under the hood, we find the four-cylinder 1.8 turbo 20V 180 hp associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. Flawless and accompanied by its original accessories, this very special Golf appears to be a real time machine for its new owner.
