A man hit a general practitioner in the face of a medical center in Châtellerault, reports the New Republic.
Professionals are “in shock”. This Friday, in Vienne, a general practitioner was the victim of an assault following an altercation with patients. The facts are related by the New Republic and occur a few days after the assault of several practitioners in the emergency room of Tourcoing.
This Friday, at the Clément-Krebs medical center in Châtellerault, Dr Corinne Joyeux was hit in the face by a man who came with his wife to have their five-month-old baby examined. According to the regional daily, the couple arrived more than an hour late and were directed to the waiting room, which he would not have appreciated.
Cerebral hematoma
As the tone rose, Corinne Joyeux was punched in the face and crashed into the corner of a table, then lost consciousness. A significant cerebral hematoma was found. In the first hours, his condition was considered serious but the evolution now seems favorable.
The other general practitioners of the medical house decided to close the office until Wednesday morning to denounce this “serious act”. Appointments were canceled until Monday. “With this decision, we want to raise public awareness and express our support for our colleague,” commented a doctor in the office, quoted by the newspaper. The couple also reportedly intend to file a complaint. He would blame the cabinet for not taking care of their baby.
A “dead health” day
“It is totally unacceptable. Attacks on doctors are infrequent, but their number is increasing. The Order of Physicians will take action each time such an act occurs, ”reacted the council of the Departmental Order, contacted by the daily.
The Order also reports that this attack provoked strong indignation among doctors in the region. A “dead health” day could be organized soon by the profession at the departmental level.
