If you can’t finish a meal without a good piece of creamy cheese. Or you’re still not considering switching to skimmed milk for your breakfast, then this news is for you: Researchers at the University of Reading in Britain have put their cows on a diet to help us eat lower fat dairy products.
For this experiment, dairy cows from 22 farms in South West England were fed rapeseed supplements for more than a month, which reduced the saturated fat content of their milk by more than 5%. , without changing the total fat content of the milk. Because, at the same time, the content of monounsaturated fats, which are considered good for health, increased by 9%.
Milk richer in good fats
According to the researchers, continuing to eat a diet rich in dairy products, but with milk richer in “good fats” and lower in “bad fats” would be real progress in reducing the risk of heart attack.
A large part of cardiovascular diseases (especially cholesterol or overweight) are indeed caused by a diet that is too rich in fats. However, many cardiovascular diseases could be avoided by adopting a better lifestyle and a diet richer in foods that protect the heart and arteries.
In France, 150,000 people die each year from cardiovascular disease (stroke, heart attack). These diseases kill one in three women and one in four men.
