Filter or instant, with or without caffeine … American researchers have succeeded in showing that the Coffee reduced the risk of colorectal cancer.
Stephen Gruber of the University of Southern California (USC) (United States) and his colleagues conducted this research by following 5,145 men and women with Colon Cancer for a few months and 4097 participants in good health.
Volunteers had to complete questionnaires and undergo interviews on their caffeine consumption. These elements made it possible to establish the frequency of intakes and the type of favorite preparation of each (espresso, instant, decaffeinated or filtered).
Colon cancer: more coffee and less risk
Conclusion: the greater the coffee consumption, the greater the risk of colorectal cancer was reduced. Consuming one or two cups a day already lowered the risk by 26%.
A risk reduced by up to 50% for those who drank more than two and a half cups of coffee per day.
Decaffeinated, instant … all coffees would reduce the risk of colorectal cancer
No matter what type of coffee or brew, even the instant and the decaffeinated produced a beneficial effect on the body of the participants.
This would indicate that caffeine is not the only one responsible for the protective properties of coffee. Several substances present such as polyphenols, melanoidins and diterpenes could have beneficial effects on the body.
Drink coffee!
Scientists need more research, however, before recommending coffee consumption as a preventative measure.
“That being said, there are few health risks associated with drinking coffee. I would encourage coffee lovers to welcome the strong possibility that their cup per day may reduce the risk of. colorectal cancer, concludes Stephen Gruber.
