Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the United States have established a link between a person’s attitude on social networks and the success or failure of their diet. They studied tweets from 700 people who paired the MyFitPal calorie counter app with their Twitter account. The analysis of these posts makes it possible to predict at 77% whether the person will follow his goals or not.
Positive for better success
Those who achieve their daily goals the most are the ones who express the most positive feelings. They use more reflective, forward-looking language, and are more likely to share healthy recipes, nutrition advice or physical activity. They also regularly update their many friends on their progress. Success of the diet rhymes for these people with a wider circle of relationships and many social interactions. This gives them more support, which helps them stick to their diet.
Conversely, dieting is more difficult for people who Tweet negative content. They are more uncomfortable and worried, even anxious because of a lack of emotional control. These people focus on the times when they don’t succeed and on the little misfortunes in life. This study reveals above all that the success of a diet is more a question of personality than of social networks. This is expressed simply through posts, which allows you to study it.
