How do I know if I am lactose intolerant?
There is a lactose intolerance test to be carried out at the hospital, but getting an appointment can be difficult and the test is cumbersome. However, it is possible to test yourself easily at home by simply drinking a glass of milk (or hot chocolate) of 20 centilitres, or a quantity of 10 grams of lactose.
If, after half an hour, you experience the typical symptoms of dairy intolerance such as bloating, abdominal pain or diarrhea, it is very likely that you are lactose intolerant. If you do not feel any symptoms, repeat the test the next day with 40 cl of milk. If no digestive disorder appears then good news: You are not lactose intolerant!
If you experienced the symptoms indicated during the test, you can confirm lactose intolerance with a test for avoidance. For three days, eliminate all dairy products and foods containing lactose (check the labels carefully). Note whether your bowel comfort improves or not. On the fourth day, reintroduce dairy products into your diet and note if your intestinal comfort is deteriorating or not, if the symptoms reappear.
If you see improvement after lactose removal, followed by deterioration on reintroduction of dairy products, then the presumption of lactose intolerance is very important. Talk to your doctor, your pharmacist or a dietician, there are solutions.
When you are lactose intolerant, you just have to stop drinking milk, right?
Yes, but that’s not enough! Lactose is present in milk and dairy products but also in many elaborate preparations, such as pastries, pizzas, burgers, ice creams, chocolates, sauces, ready meals, etc. and even in 20% of drugs as an excipient. In France 100% of contraceptive pills contain lactose!
Lactose is often hidden where you least expect it, such as in charcuterie, where it serves as a preservative and texturizer. Meals eaten away from home can be particularly problematic. Lactose intolerance often impacts social life, as not only can you miss out on enjoying meals like everyone else, but you can also be perceived as fussy!
How do Lactolérance dietary supplements work?
People with lactose intolerance have a lack of lactase, the enzyme responsible for digesting lactose. This situation causes lactose to ferment, causing symptoms such as bloating, pain and diarrhea.
Lactolérance capsules are formulated with lactase to compensate for this enzymatic deficit. Thus, the digestion of lactose can be carried out as in a lactose-tolerant person. The food supplement acts immediately from the first use, without causing side effects.
Thanks to this supplementation, it is now possible to eat everything without fear of unpleasant symptoms. The quality of life is considerably improved.
It is important to note that Milk tolerance is only effective against lactose intolerance and not against cow’s milk protein allergy, for which there is no treatment.
