According to a study of 1,500 men and women in San Diego County, California, seniors are happier overall than young adults. During of this survey, the researchers interviewed people between the ages of 20 and 99. All participants reported feeling more comfortable in their lives and happier year after year, decade after decade.
And while young adults between the ages of 20 and 30 have significant levels of stressas well as anxiety symptoms and of depressionseniors show real psychological well-being.
Well-being declines until age 55
Old age is often associated with the degradation of the body and cognitive decline. But after analyzing the physical health, mental health and cognitive function of the participants, the researchers came to the conclusion “that well-being could be drawn in a U-shape: it declines from 20 years to around 45-55 years and then rises again”.
This study confirms the work of researchers from University College London who stated a few months ago that the level of well-being improves in 60s.
