The virtues of mediterranean diet are not to be demonstrated. Not only does it protect against cognitive decline, metabolic syndrome, and breast cancer, but it is also effective in reducing the risk of recurrence of cardiovascular disease, according to the results of a study. study published in the European Heart Journal. Indeed, this type of food allows 3 times less heart attacks, cerebrovascular accidents (stroke) or death compared to a Western-style diet.

Indeed, at the end of the study, 10.1% of participants had suffered a major cardiovascular accident (heart attack, strokeor death). But the researchers observed that this incidence affected 7.3% of the 2,885 participants with a Mediterranean diet score greater than 15 (out of a total of 24), with 10.5% of the 4,018 participants having a score of over 15. mediterranean diet of 13-14, and 10.8% of the 8,579 individuals with a score of mediterranean diet less than 12.
“Every one unit increase in the Mediterranean diet score is associated with a 7% reduction in the risk of heart attacks,Stroke or death in patients with existing heart disease, ”said Ralph AH Stewart, professor of cardiology at the University of Auckland.
“The main message of this study is that certain foods, especially fruits and vegetables, appear to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. If you eat more of these foods, you can lower your risk of recurrence ”.
