Asked by LCI, Doctor Gérald Kierzek gives us a few tips for living with the cold that is raging in France at the moment. The body adapts, don’t panic.
Cold wave ? Not even afraid !
Our -5 ° C should make our Canadian or Russian friends smile nicely … Indeed, temperatures that do not flirt with -20 ° C are not the sea to drink. Yes, but … We are not used to the extreme cold, so we have to give our body a little time to get used to it and adopt the right reflexes.
If you are elderly or have the flu, or even vascular or heart problems, do not hesitate to stay at home warm. This will prevent the spread of germs, especially if you are a fan of public transport. For the sick of the heart, know that the cold accentuates these shortcomings. The others, continue to live normally. If you are planning a major effort, sport or cycling for example, take a little more time than usual to complete your journey and do not force.
Dress warmly
Superfluous recommendation in the middle of winter? Maybe, but it is worth remembering a few little tips. Cover the ends as a priority : hands (why not ski gloves), feet and head – ears included -: 30% of the body’s heat escapes through the head. On the toe side, choose well insulating shoes and check that your soles do not slip. Because who says cold, says ice.
The onion technique remains a good habit. Opt for natural materials (wool, cotton), do not hesitate to overlay layers. Tights under the pants, T-shirt or silk underwear under the top. “ The multiplication of layers has another advantage, it allows air to pass between the layers and the air is insulating », Concludes Dr Kierzek.
