Switching on heating: how do you use a heating economically?

Of course you want to be nice and warm in the winter. With these high energy costs, this can add up in costs. It is useful to put things in order now. Saving a little can save you a few euros per year. In this article you can read how to use your heating as economically as possible.

Check boiler

Before the cold really starts, it is important that you check your boiler properly. This prevents you from being without heating on cold days. It is recommended to check this every 3 months.

If you are going to check the boiler, it is important to pay attention to the pressure that is on it. The value must be between 1.5 and 2 bar. Is the pressure less than 1 bar? Then the pump of your central heating boiler can even break. Topping up the pressure yourself is easy. Vattenfal provides a simple step-by-step plan to top up your resume in 6 steps.

Adjust flow temperature

The supply temperature regulates how hot the central heating water is when the boiler is running at maximum power to heat a cold house. By default, this temperature is set at 80 degrees. Nevertheless, in a reasonably to well-insulated environment, it is advisable to adjust the supply temperature from 80 degrees to 60 degrees. A house with very good insulation – you often see this in new-build homes or houses with good double glazing – can even be adjusted to 35 to 50 degrees.

The supply temperature will not bring you a lot of money. Do you really want to save money? Then the biggest tip is to properly insulate your house. Think of placing draft strips or, for example, a brush in your letterbox. And of course by paying attention to your warming behaviour. Do not use the heating unnecessarily if, for example, you go on holiday or are away from home all day. And only heat up the rooms that you actually use.

1 degree lower already yields almost a hundred euros

Do you think that turning down your heating won’t do much? With just 1 degree lower, you save an average of 120 cubic meters of gas per year. This year you pay 0.80 euros per cubic meter of gas. So you arrive at a total saving of 96 euros.

Purchasing smart thermostats can also save you a lot of money. You see these smart thermostats more and more. Useful! For example, if you are on your way to work and find out that you have forgotten to turn down the heating, you can easily do this via an app on your smartphone.

Did you know that opening your window every now and then makes for a warmer house? It may sound strange, but in the end it makes sense. Because your house becomes less humid, it is easier to keep your home at the right temperature.
