Many French people don’t think about consult their vaccination record and are not up to date in their vaccines. The general population’s vaccination rate is below government targets for hepatitis B, measles, or seasonal influenza.
To remedy this situation, the Court of Auditors recommends a change in vaccination policy, the flagship measure of which would be the establishment of an electronic vaccination record.
This tool, already in place in Switzerland, would facilitate the monitoring of past and future vaccines by patients and doctors. For health professionals, this would make it possible to modify, correct and validate vaccines online. For patients, this helps them not to forget their vaccines. An SMS alert is in fact sent to notify that a vaccine reminder must be done, for example.
Less well reimbursed vaccines?
The Court of Auditors is also considering modulating the level of coverage for compulsory or recommended vaccines according to “the interest for the public”. Concretely, vaccination programs for which reimbursements exceed 20 million euros could be revised for the sake of economy. In the viewfinder of the Court of Auditors: the reimbursement of 100% vaccination against seasonal influenza in over 65s and people at risk and that of measles in children which could be reduced.
