Sony introduces its latest premium wireless headphones with the Sony WH-1000XM5. An evolution or a revolution?
Two years after the launch of the Sony WH-1000XM4, the brand now comes with the successor to those wireless premium headphones. And it has big shoes to fill, because its predecessor turned out to be a true all-rounder. Previous generations of the WH-1000X series already scored very high in all lists, so they have a reputation to uphold.
noise cancellation
The first thing that Sony itself immediately mentions is the improved noise cancellation. Or as they say, the best noise cancellation just got better. To do that, the headphones feature two processors, one more than its predecessor, driving eight microphones to dramatically reduce noise, especially in the mid-high frequency range. In addition, the WH-1000XM5 an Auto NC Optimizer that optimizes noise reduction completely automatically depending on the environment. Sony claims that it doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to do your work in a busy cafe or just want to relax during a hectic flight or whatever, the world around you should be able to turn you off completely.
Sound quality
What you do hear must be a very tight sound of course. The Japanese think so too, so they’ve used carbon fiber to improve high-frequency sensitivity and, those are the details, soldered the whole thing together with lead-free gold. Top of the bill.
And that is also allowed, because the new headphones cost 420 euros. But then you do get a development of the headphones that has significant improvements compared to its predecessor.
