No less than ten million French people take sleeping pills on a regular basis. A habit that can be dangerous according to the magazine’s latest survey 60 million consumers published on November 8.
The French consume their sleeping pills for too long
Before going to bed: a sleeping pill and a large glass of water and let’s go for a restful night! Ten million French people make this gesture on a regular basis and over a (too) long period of time. Treatment is expected to last five days, but in practice catches exceed six months in 70% of cases.
These figures come from a survey conducted by the magazine 60 million consumers. The goal ? Alert the French to the real dangers of these sleeping pills (Stilnox, Zolpidem, Donormyl) and their side effects. The list is long and unfortunately still largely unknown.
Side effects of sleeping pills
Insomnia, shifted work pace, snoring spouse, stress, anxieties … The reasons that push us to the pharmacy or to our attending physicians to get sleeping pills to sleep better are numerous and justified. But be careful because this medication is far from harmless, especially if it is taken for a long time.
And since the body gets used to it after a few days of taking it, you must constantly increase the doses of these treatments (and their side effects at the same time) to keep them effective… The consequences can be very serious: drowsiness, confusion, visual disturbances, heart problems, liver problems, aggressiveness and suicidal urges. What if we thought of a future weaning?
