A measles epidemic broke out in Ardoix, in the North Ardèche. Between the beginning of July and August 9, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) Auvergne-Rhônes-Alpes identified six cases of this contagious disease. These are two adults and four children, some of whom are young, as reported France Blue Drôme Ardèche.
The patients are out of danger but four of them had to be hospitalized. Today, they have all returned home, with supervision instructions given to parents.
The patients were not vaccinated
The ARS nevertheless calls on the inhabitants of Ardoix and its surroundings to consult a doctor in the event of fever and the appearance of pimples. “Measles is a very contagious disease, around a single patient we can end up with 20 infected people”, explains doctor Vincent Ronin, of the health watch of the ARS Auvergne-Rhones-Alpes at the microphone of France Bleu.
“As there is no specific curative treatment for measles, when the attacks are severe we can have cases of death. At the national level, there was still one death recently”, laments the doctor, still at France Bleu .
None of the six patients were vaccinated against measles, which Vincent Ronin regrets. “You have to be vaccinated to avoid this disease, it is the right time to do it, before the start of the school year. It is not worth giving the stick to get beaten”, he adds to the media . With 70% of people vaccinated against measles, the Ardèche is 10% below the national average.
