Singer strikes again. The Californian specialist in Porsche 911 restomods presents the Turbo Study, its first turbocharged model. Beneath its air of a 930 from the 1970s, the coupé made from a 964 houses a 3.8 L twin-turbo 450 hp air-cooled engine.
For twelve years now, Singer has been restoring and modifying Porsche 911s to make them ultra-exclusive restomods combining the look of the first 911s with the performance of modern sports cars and a bespoke finish, while preserving the originality of the cars of origin. In terms of design and quality, the greatest care is taken in every detail by the company whose motto is: ” Everything is important. The reputation of the Californian firm founded and managed by Rob Dickinson is such that its orders have more than doubled between 2020 and 2021. This should not stop any time soon since Singer today adds a string to its bow by presenting for the first time a turbocharged model. The work carried out under the name Turbo Study materializes through the first Singer Turbo intended for a customer.

450 breathing horses
As always, Singer started from a Porsche 911 Type 964. The single-spec 3.8L cube flat-six engine. It is equipped with two turbochargers, air-cooled, and develops “ more than » 450 hplike the 3.6 L block of the Porsche 911 Turbo S type 993 in its time.
This power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
The suspension is calibrated for grand touring according to the customer’s wishes, and the coupé has carbon-ceramic brakes. Still in the GT atmosphere, the passenger compartment has light beige leather upholstery extending to the door panels and the dashboard; it is also entitled to air conditioning and electrically adjustable heated seats.
Codes respected and reinterpreted
Aesthetically too, the Turbo Study marks an evolution at Singer. Because here the car does not sport the style of a 911 from the 1960s. It is indeed the look of the original 911 Turbo from 1975, type 930, which is evoked with the new carbon fiber bodywork painted in Blue “Wolf Blue”. We therefore find the prominent shields, the front apron, the wide fenders and the “pie server” spoiler of the Turbo, without forgetting the Fuchs rims which display here a large offset. One of the most notable exterior elements is the reinterpretation of the Turbo’s signature ‘shark fin’ body guards in front of the rear wheels. Here they are replaced by air intakes which take up the design and contribute to the cooling of the engine bay.
Unsurprisingly, no price has been communicated for this achievement, which Singer modestly qualifies as a restoration. The rate charged to each customer depends on their requests, each car being personalized at will. Singer only works on air-cooled 911s, coupe like Targa, with two or four wheel drive, and now aspirated like turbocharged with adjustable power on demand. The first Turbo Study will be visible at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed (United Kingdom) from June 23 to 26, then at Monterey Car Week (USA) in August.
