Contract fulfilled for the organizers of Operation Sidaction 2013: pledges, which had slightly weakened last year, again crossed the 5 million euro mark, 25% more than last year. In their press release, the organizers say to themselves: “Happy to note that after a difficult year 2012, due, among other things, to a wait-and-see attitude linked to a major electoral deadline in France, the French are attached to the fight against AIDS”.
As has been the case since the start of the operation, half of the funds collected during Sidaction will be devoted to financing scientific and medical programs and the other half to prevention and aid programs for patients.

Once again the organizers of Sidaction called on not to claim victory too quickly. The AIDS epidemic continues to grow: around 2.5 million people are infected each year and, according to the World Health Organization, 1.8 million sick people die from it. In France, out of 150,000 HIV carriers, 15,000 to 30,000 people do not know it.
Paris is the city in France most affected by AIDS. The number of victims is indeed five times higher than the national average, according to the latest statistics from the National Institute for Public Health Surveillance. Among those infected, 78% are between 25 and 49 years old, 9% are under 25 and 13% are 50 years or older.
Note that the Sidaction campaign is not over and that pledges can still be sent for ten days, by dialing 110.
