According to federal health authorities, the number of cases of sexually transmitted infections reached an all-time high in the United States in 2015.
More and more people infected
US health officials said sexually transmitted diseases increased sharply between 2014 and 2015. Syphilis cases increased by 19% (just under 24,000 people infected), gonorrhea cases 12.8% (400,000 people affected) and chlamydia cases 5.9% (1.5 million people affected).
” We have reached a critical moment in our country », Said Dr Jonathan Mermin, director of the National Center for HIV / AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to him, the frequency of infections ” is increasing and a large number of prevention and care systems in the country have been reduced ”.
Expand medical services
And Dr. Jonathan Mermin to insist on the need ” a mobilization to rebuild and expand its medical services otherwise human and economic costs will continue to increase “. This mobilization is all the more important as chlamydial infection, gonorrhea and syphilis can be cured with antibiotics.
