The scam cost 630,000 euros to social security. A midwife and a nurse from the Lyon region were sentenced on Friday January 12 to two years in prison, one year of which was closed.
The hearing took place on December 12, in front of the 5th criminal court of the Lyon court. The prosecution then required 30 months in prison, including 12 suspended sentences for the ex-midwife and two years for the nurse, denouncing “a plunder of public funds”, as reported by AFP. The scam took place between 2009 and 2014.
Overbilling, fictitious billings and abusive charges
Véronique G., 52, was a midwife in Saint-Priest in the Lyon region. In October 2010, she began to take care of elderly people at the end of their life, without signing an exemption with the primary health insurance fund (CPAM). She was convicted of overbilling, fictitious billings and abusive travel expenses. In total, 277,000 euros were embezzled between 2010 and his arrest in 2014.
Michèle F. is 72 years old. She was a private nurse in Villeurbanne and also took care of the elderly. In one year, it invoiced three times more acts than the average, that is to say 18,000.
The court sentenced the two women to one year in prison and a suspended sentence, accompanied by the confiscation of the sums seized, the obligation to compensate the civil parties and for Ms. G, the definitive ban on practicing as a liberal nurse. .
The two women each deny any fraudulent intent. Ms. F.’s lawyer, who pleaded for acquittal, has announced his intention to appeal.
