- The occupants of houses or apartments built according to the Maharishi Vastu architecture demonstrate greater creativity.
Living room, bedroom, kitchen… In each room, the location and orientation of the furniture are important. According to a recent study published in the journal Global Advances in Health and Medicineinstalling your furniture in a specific place and in the right direction can not only enlarge the room and make it more functional, but also do us good psychologically and physically.
To reach this conclusion, researchers from the Maharishi International University (USA) and the Maharishi Vedic Research Institute (Australia) reviewed several researches on the benefits of Maharishi Vastu architecture. It is a set of architectural and planning principles that ensures that a development will produce only favorable influences on its occupants. According to the authors, Maharishi Vastu architecture, which has strict rules governing the orientation and proportions of a building, “has been applied in the West for the past 20 years”.
Properly orienting and positioning your furniture, the key to good health
“The integration of the principles of Maharishi Vastu architecture into the rooms of a house or apartment is correlated with significant improvements in the physical and mental health and quality of life of the occupants: better sleep, greater children’s happiness, increased sense of security and reduced stress”, can we read in the results.
According to the study’s findings, sleeping with your head facing east or southeast is linked to lower heart rate, blood pressure and cholesterol levels. The researchers also indicated that houses with a south-facing entrance are associated with poor mental health and more financial problems. Another finding: facing east while working is correlated with greater brain coherence and faster task completion.
“We were surprised that something so old had so much to teach us about how buildings can improve our health and productivity”said Jon Lipman, lead author of the study, in a statement.
