- Study Shows Mood-Elevating, Stress-Reducing Effects of Saffron Extract Capsule
A new study published in Frontiers in Nutrition demonstrates that saffron improves mood and reduces stress. These results “indicate that Safr’Inside™ (encapsulated saffron extract rich in safranal) is effective on mood and stress regulation in healthy people suffering from low morale or occasional stress” welcomes the French SME Activ’Inside, at the origin of the product.
“Improvement of the mood of the participants and their social relations”
In partnership with academic structures (Brain Performance and Nutrition Research Center (Northumbria University) – ITERG, Nutrition-Health & Lipid Biochemistry Department – University of Bordeaux, INRAE, NutriNeuro), the company conducted a randomized, double-blind clinical trial, to understand how his saffron-based solution could help improve mood, well-being and psychosocial stress in healthy adults.
For 8 weeks, 56 men and women aged 18 to 54 were split into two parallel groups, and consumed 30 mg of Safr’Inside™ or placebo daily, in 2 doses of 15 mg. “This chronic supplementation showed that the Safr’InsideTM saffron extract improved participants’ mood and their social relationships significantly.” say scientists.
The acute efficacy of 30mg of Safr’InsideTM before coping with stress has also been tested on healthy subjects. “In 30 minutes, Safr’InsideTM inhibited the deleterious effects of stress on heart health”, they continue.
An alternative to pharmacological treatments
Compared to pharmacological treatments for mood and stress disorders, which carry risks of adverse effects and addiction, Activ’Inside thus shows that its saffron extract can constitute a natural alternative solution.
“The results of our clinical trial validate the full relevance of our Safr’Inside™ solution to respond to a major public health issue affecting a large part of the population. In addition, while the health crisis is leading to a sharp increase in anxiety, depression and insomnia in the population, Safr’Inside™ now appears to be a promising candidate to improve emotional well-being in healthy people and contribute to better resistance against the development of disorders related to stress, explains Benoît Lemaire, President of Activ’Inside.
