Scientific studies often remind us that to increase one’s life expectancy, it is necessary to eat well and practice regular physical activity. Surprising as it may seem, eating books would increase life expectancy by 2 years, according to the results of a study published in the medical journal Social Science and Medicine.
Researchers at Yale University (United States) conducted a study with 3,635 people aged 50. Scientists analyzed their health data and highlighted it with their reading habits.
Devour Books To Live Longer
The findings of the study revealed that a literature enthusiast lived on average 23 months longer than an individual who never reads. Half an hour of reading per day reduces the risk of dying by 23% over a 12-year period.
“People who report reading little, even half an hour a day, had a significant survival advantage over those who don’t read,” says study author Professor Becca Levy and quoted by the Daily Mail.
Keep in mind, however, that to live long and in good health, you have to fight against a sedentary lifestyle. The World Health Organization recommends 10,000 steps a day. Inactivity is now the 4th risk factor for early mortality in the world afterarterial hypertension, the smoking and the diabetes.
